Safari
Safari in the Okavango Delta is a constantly
changing experience as the flood waters ebb and flow according
to the seasons.
Camps are all small and comfortable and include some positioned
deep in the heart of the Delta that are as luxurious as
any in Africa.
The greatest concentration of game is in the Moremi Game
Reserve, but there are many private concessions offering
excellent game viewing in areas bordering the Reserve.
Game viewing can be from open topped safari vehicles or
by power boat or mekoro (a traditional dug-out canoe).
Some camps can only offer either land or water-based game-viewing
activities and some can offer both, although the balance
between them is constantly shifting depending on the water
levels.
The wildlife is outstanding in the Delta with an abundance
of plains game, elephant and predators of all sorts, but
for many travellers it is the dazzling birdlife that enchants
them.
There are regular charter flights between camps and in and
out of Maun to the Delta, making a fly-in safari an excellent
way to explore the different habitats the Delta provides.
These flights also link up with
other safari destinations in Botswana such as the
Selinda, a game-rich private reserve on the Selinda Spillway
which links the Okavango Delta to the Linyanti Swamps, or
the Makgadikadi Pans which offer a rare chance to explore
on quad bike these ancient salt pans deep in the Kalahari
and where for a few short weeks a year can be seen the last
great Migration of zebra and wildebeest in Southern Africa.
For the adventurous traveller we can arrange a mobile Botswana
safari, tailor-made for each group, where you will be accommodated
in small and comfortable private tented camps and follow
the migration of the wildlife from the Okavango Delta to
some of the remotest areas of the Central Kalahari, also
learning at first hand some of the ancient skills of the
San Bushmen. |
