Safari
Liwonde National Park, just south of
Lake Malawi, is relatively small, but offers superb game
viewing centred on the Shire River which flows out of Lake
Malawi and eventually joins the Zambezi in Mozambique.
The elephant viewing and birdlife are exceptional, and
lion are sometimes seen. At Mvuu Lodge, Malawi’s most
luxurious game destination, there is a variety of activities
ranging from day and night boat trips and game drives to
bush walks.
Nyika National Park boasts some of the
most dramatic landscape in Africa, with the wooded lower
slopes giving way to open rolling grasslands with lush montane
forests nestled in the folds of the hills.
Here you can see rare bird species and herds of roan and
eland and because of the cool climate, there are regular
daytime sightings of leopard.
This is ideal country for horse riding on day rides or
longer specialist riding safaris which enable you to approach
game far closer than on foot or in a vehicle.
Accommodation at Chelinda Lodge with views out on the rolling
grasslands of the high Nyika is extremely comfortable and
the welcome as warm as anywhere in Africa.
We can design itineraries for fly-in
or mobile safaris combining these and other game destinations
such as Vwaza Marsh Game Reserve and Lengwe National Park
or hiking on the 3000m peak of Mulanje Mountain .
Lake Malawi
Crystal clear water and shoals of brightly coloured freshwater
cichlid fish offer wonderful snorkelling up and down the
lake, and there are opportunities for kayaking or sailing
an ocean-going catamaran.
There are family friendly resort hotels and small intimate
lodges that are perfect for honeymooners on the Malawi and
Mozambican shores, and romantic island hideaways offering
all sorts of water sports including scuba diving.
A trip to Lake Malawi is much more than
a beach holiday, and combines brilliantly with safari within
the country or in Zambia. |
