Safari
The Kruger is a world famous National
Park with possibly the most sybaritic safari camps and lodges
in Africa, as well as some of the finest game viewing.
In private reserves bordering the Kruger, you find safari
lodges such as Londolozi and Singita whose names are bywords
for exclusivity and luxury, but there are lodges that share
this excellent game viewing (which often includes the ‘Big
Five’ of lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino),
with less expensive accommodation.
Whilst the game is the big draw in this area, Mpumulanga
is stunning with natural phenomena such as Blyde River Canyon
and Pilgrim’s Rest.
There are many other excellent game reserves
in South Africa, some malaria free such as Madikwe National
Park, near the Botswana border northwest of Johannesburg,
and Addo Elephant Park near Port Elizabeth, which has the
highest concentration of elephants anywhere in Africa.
These are very popular with families, and combine well
with some of the many and varied holiday activities available
in South Africa.
This is merely to scratch the surface in a country where
every year redundant ranch land is being returned to wildlife
conservation.
Cape Town and the
Cape
This beautiful city has an elegant and relaxed style and
is perennially popular, with a range of world class hotels
to rival any European capital, and a better climate!
With the dramatic and unmistakeable backdrop
of Table Mountain and fashionable beaches, Cape Town can
be a destination in itself or a wonderful end to a Southern
African safari.
The Cape provided the springboard for the early settlers’
colonisation and there are numerous reminders in the historic
Cape Dutch architecture and world famous wine estates of
Constantia, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch.
Cape Town is also the start of
the Garden Route which runs east along the coast to Port
Elizabeth. It passes through Hermanus, where you
can see great white sharks, cape fur seals and southern
right whales with their calves in the calm waters of Walker
Bay, and on to George, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, the playground
of the Western Cape.
This area is best explored by hire car and we will arrange
for you to stay in luxurious coastal hideaways renowned
for their outstanding cuisine.
Kwazulu Natal
From the towering Drakensbergs Mountains
to the golden beaches of Rocktail Bay, Natal has extraordinary
diversity.
Wonderful mountain inns, spellbinding accounts of Zulu
and Boer War battles, dramatic scenery and several different
coastal and inland game reserves and National Parks can
all be enjoyed in South Africa’s smallest province.
