Safari

The Northern Parks include Arusha National Park, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Serengeti National Park and are renowned for their huge open spaces, teeming with wildlife.

The great Wildebeest Migration that the Masai Mara hosts in late summer can be seen in different parts of the Serengeti ecosystem throughout the year, or you can enjoy the spectacle of great herds of elephant in Tarangire or the famous tree-climbing lions of Manyara.

Because there is only limited walking permitted in the National Parks, most of the game viewing here is by vehicle, so increasingly we are using camps on adjoining Community lands which can offer guided game walks and cultural interaction with the indigenous tribes.

Fly-in safaris feature first class lodges in the best locations to make the very most of this game viewing, from the ‘Masai Versailles’ that is Ngorongoro Crater Lodge to Oliver’s Camp in Tarangire.

More than any other country, Northern Tanzania lends itself to mobile tented camps, evoking the true spirit of ‘safari’.

With a private guide and vehicle you can explore these boundless wilderness areas staying in comfortable walk-in tents with hot bucket showers and delicious food miraculously produced from the most basic of bush kitchens.

The tents will be struck by the dedicated camp staff every few days and moved to a new location as you track lion or cheetah with your guide, and if you wish you can punctuate your safari with a few nights of luxury in one or more lodges.

Southern Tanzania includes the great wilderness area of the Selous Game Reserve, Ruaha National Park, Katavi Plains National Park and Mahale Mountains National Park.

Less frequented than the Northern Parks, they are remote and relatively untouched, but the game viewing is superb from the vast herd of buffalo on the Katavi Plains to the chimpanzees deep in the forests of Mahale.

Camps are stylish and as comfortable as any in Africa, with access usually by light aircraft into private landing strips.

Safari in Southern Tanzania tends to be for the more adventurous traveller, as distances between safari destinations are greater and travelling times are longer. The parks are relatively free of other tourists and the wildlife, although plentiful, is often shy of humans.

Beach retreats

Tanzania’s coastline is almost impossibly exotic with its heady mix of different cultures and peoples and nowhere more so than on Zanzibar.

You can explore the winding alleys and crumbling grandeur of Stone Town or relax on some idyllic beach.

From the barefoot luxury of a tiny coral atoll like the exclusive Mnemba Island to the charm of an Omani palace in Stone Town, Zanzibar has something for everyone.

On the mainland and islands dotted along this Indian Ocean coast we can find you small and comfortable lodges with outstanding diving and snorkelling on virginal coral reefs, deep sea fishing and water sports and miles of soft white sand.
